Doris May Simpson Brunner, 89, peacefully passed away on Friday, July 20, at Evans Health Care in Fort Myers, Florida. At the time of her death she was lovingly cared for by Hope Hospice of Fort Myers. She was born in Louisville on October 2, 1922, the daughter of the late Orel and Rosetta Simpson. Doris worked briefly at the Stock Yards Bank before leaving to become a full-time homemaker shortly before the birth of her first child. Doris had a passion for gardening and always had extensive flower beds consisting of iris, daylilies, and roses. She also loved to sew, quilt, and do needlepoint. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of more than fifty years, Clarence F. Brunner; her youngest daughter, Judy Brunner Lindsey; and her sister, Ruth Simpson Smith. She is survived by her daughter, Diane Brunner Pfister (Ted) of Fort Myers; granddaughter, Nanette Lindsey; grandson, Derek Pfister (Whitney) of Charlestown, Indiana; and four great-grandchildren, Hunter and Madeline Lindsey, and Jackson and Madeline Pfister. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Alvin Brunner. Visitation will be on Friday, July 27 from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road. A private graveside service will be held the following day at Cave Hill Cemetery. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy be made to the donor’s charity of choice.
