Charmoli, Dorothy Jane,

71, passed away peacefully at her home Tuesday, July 28, 2015 surrounded by her loving family.

She is survived by her brothers, Bob and Phil (Martha) Charmoli; her sister-in-law, Peggy Charmoli; five nieces, Susan (Cary) Owen, Sally (Bob) Koether, Jennifer (Brian) Fratesi, Sarah Charmoli, and Lauren (Gavin) Reherman; two nephews, Michael (Candi) and Greg (Kelly) Charmoli and nine great-nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, L.J. "Butch" and Dorothy Y. Charmoli and her brother, David Charmoli.

She worked for the Jefferson County Board of Education for twenty years as a teacher at Kenwood Elementary. She served as president for JCTA's Board for two years and as a liaison for the JCPS and the city of Louisville.

Jane was a leader and touched many lives in the community; all the students she taught; teachers she advised through JCTA; clients she helped through Neighborhood Place; the single-parent students she assisted to earn a college degree at Family Scholar House; the contributions to the Louisville Public Library; and many other charitable foundations.

Jane will be missed by all of her many loved ones from her lifelong grade school friends, her many book and bridge clubs. She was a very giving person and loved her family dearly. She fought cancer on her own terms and taught all of us how to die with grace and dignity. She leaves behind a legacy of love, giving, faith, and laughter. She will forever be missed in our hearts.

Visitation will be 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Thursday, July 30, 2015 and after 9 a.m. Friday at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road, Louisville. Her funeral service and Mass will be at St. Francis of Assisi, 1960 Bardstown Road, at 11 a.m. Friday.
