SCHROEDER, DOROTHY M. "DOT," 89, died Thursday, April 1, 2010.
She was born October 10, 1920 in Minneapolis, MN. A graduate of Saint Catherine University School of Nursing and the University of Minnesota, she was a veteran of World War II, serving as a first lieutenant in the 191st Army Hospital during the Battle of the Bulge.
She met her husband of 62 years, Leroy A. Schroeder, in the service and in 1948 moved to Louisville, where she was a nurse and nursing supervisor at Saint Joseph's Infirmary and Jewish Hospital. Dot was a member of the Women's Overseas Service League.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Catharine Podany; and her sister, Ethyl Bylin.
She is survived by her husband, Leroy A. "Pete" Schroeder; her brother, Jack Podany (Helen); her sons, Louis A. Schroeder, M.D. (Janice), John M. Schroeder (Cathy), Karl V. Schroeder, M.D. (Carol) and Michael A. Schroeder (Susan); and her seven grandchildren, James, Ben, Kate, Mary Beth, Jack, Anna and Luke.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. on Monday, April 5, 2010 at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road. A funeral Mass will be noon on Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at Saint Raphael the Archangel Catholic Church, 2141 Lancashire Avenue. She will be laid to rest in Cave Hill Cemetery.
