SMITH, EDITH EMILY, 87, of Louisville, passed away Thursday, February 10, 2011.
She attended Franklin College where she was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority. She was a graduate of Duke University School of Nursing and was a retired RN from VA Hospital. Edie will always be known as "The Duke Lady" to her close friends and relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Russell and Nellie Smith; brother, Parker Rees Smith; and sister, Eleanor Walker Hamilton.
She is survived by her nephews, J. Page Walker (Karen), of Clarksville, IN, Stephen R. Walker, of Louisville and Parker R. Smith (Jeanne), of Seattle, WA; a niece, Lyn Walker-Meena (Victor), Orlando, FL; three great-nephews; three great-nieces; and three great-great-nieces.
Her funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday, February 18, 2011 at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road, with burial to follow in Cave Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Thursday at Highlands.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to be made to Gateway Community United Methodist Church or the Susan G. Komen Foundation .
