Obituary for Edward Joseph Rivers

RIVERS, Edward Joseph, 79, of Louisville, passed away on Thursday, July 31.
Born in Long Beach, CA, he was a member of the Third Infantry Old Guard of the U.S. Army. He was a member of the original “Long Beach Rakers Car Club”. He was the owner and operator of Third Street Sandwich Shop, Super Sub Sandwich Shop and E&J Concessions. He was an Interior Designer for Hubbuch’s and an active member of the Knights of Columbus and St. Louis Bertrand Catholic Church. He was a choir member at Resurrection and St. Phillips Neri. He was the coordinator of emergency preparedness at his church.
Edward was preceded in death by his wife, Jeannine Rivers.
He is survived by his children, Cherie Rivers Walter, Christine Lokits (Kirk), Glen Rivers (Shellie), Greg Rivers (Lisa), Gary Rivers (Terri), and Cathey Rivers (Rick Hite); siblings, Ron Rivers, MaryJane Rivers, Linda Houts (Bob), Dan Rivers (Ruth) and Mike Rivers (Cheryl); 22 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren.
Edward’s funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 am on Saturday, August 9 at St. Louis Bertrand, 1104 S. 6th St., with burial to follow in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-8 pm on Friday at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road.

He was the spiritual strength of the family. He was a very charitable, loving, inventive, artistic, father, pepé, and grand-pepé. He was a true gentleman and the “Rock” of our family. His wisdom, spirit, and strength will be deeply missed and passed on by all that knew him.
