Obituary for Ellen Hampton Adams

ADAMS, Ellen Hampton, 77, of Louisville, died April 5, 2012 at Friendship Manor Nursing Home. Born in Louisville, she was a graduate of Atherton High School and the University of Louisville, with a Master’s Degree from New York University. She was an elementary and middle school teacher for 38 years. Her career began at the JCPS, and then took her to schools located on U.S.A.F. bases in Europe and Asia. When she returned to the U.S., she taught for three years in Teaneck, N.J. then spent 20 years teaching in Louisville. Ellen ended her career leading the Language Laboratory at Johnson Traditional Middle School, where she was nominated for teacher of the year. Ellen is survived by her sister, Barbara A. Miller; nieces, Laurie Ware (Stephen), Sallie McElrath (Hugh), Kate Leverette (Scott); nephew, Patrick Miller (Terri); great nieces, Jessica Carney (Matt), Becky and Katie Rose Ware; and great nephews, Scott Miller, Jasper and DeWi McElrath and Jack and Ben Leverette. Her memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road, with burial of ashes in Cave Hill Cemetery. Memorial visitation will be from 9-11 a.m. Monday at Highlands. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Family Scholar House.
