PICKERRELL, EUGENE E. "GENE," 81, passed away peacefully at home on June 5, 2012.
He was born in New Albany, IN on August 5, 1930 and was a long-term resident of Louisville. He was a graduate of New Albany High School, then served in the Army during the Korean War era where he was stationed in Germany. He retired after 38 years from General Electric, where he worked as a designer. Gene was an avid reader, Boy Scout leader, and enjoyed traveling with his family and friends. He was also a Charter Member of the 'Not Quite Over the Hill' Gang.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, the former Betty Jean Saunders.
He is survived by his daughter, Susan Lyttle (Michael); two sons, Gregory Pickerrell (Mary) and Daniel Pickerrell; his sister, Leatha June Angle (Paul); eight grandchildren, Kenneth, Julie, Lori, Christopher, Kevin, Gina, Theresa and Ryan; and three great-grandchildren, Lucas, Katie and Ben, along with his faithful feline companion, Brittany.
His memorial service, officiated by Rev. Kim Isley, will be at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, June 8, 2012 at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Rd. with burial at Cave Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be 9 - 11:30 a.m. that morning.
