Obituary for Evelyn York Hall

HALL, EVELYN "BILLIE," 93, of Louisville, died Saturday, January 22, 2011.
She was born Edith Evelyn York, the second child of Everett and Pearl York, at their farmhouse in Harrisburg, IL.
Evelyn excelled at school and was skipped ahead to graduate early. Upon graduation, she left Harrisburg to live with a cousin in Chicago. Her outstanding beauty got her a job modeling fur coats. She met William Hall, the only love of her life, while dancing to the big bands at the Trianon ballroom. For 18 years after she married, she worked as a homemaker, raising their three daughters in four different states, before settling in Louisville. She returned to the workforce as an insurance adjustor for Booker and Kinnard Insurance Agency. After her retirement, she kept busy with her hobbies of gardening, making quilts, reading and taking care of her grandchildren. She had her constant companions, her beautiful Boxers, Jack and then Mike, to keep her company.
"Evelyn was a wonderful and unique individual. She was a very practical, smart, hard working and self-sacrificing woman, always putting her family first. She was a sweet and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and our family was blessed to have her." Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her older sister, Geneva Morris; her younger brother, Richard York; her sons-in-law, Charles Chism and Albert Finley; her beloved husband, William Hall; and her beloved oldest daughter, Susan Finley.
She is survived by her daughters, Linda Chism, of Myrtle Beach, SC; and Nancy Renzi (Joe), of Louisville; grandchildren, Tracy McCubbin Tillman (Don), of Denver, CO, Nora Renzi (Corey), Madeline Renzi and Nick Renzi, of Louisville; great-grandsons, John Renzi, Bodie Tillman and Max Mosley; and several nieces and nephews.
For the past three years, Evelyn made her home at the Nazareth Home of Louisville, where she made many friends and was able to live out her life in comfort and dignity. Her Nazareth caretakers are angels and they are sure to have a place in Heaven.
The funeral is 11 a.m. Saturday, January 29, 2011 at Highlands Family-Owned Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road, with burial at Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation is 2-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Memorial gifts may be made to the Nazareth Home, 2000 Newburg Road, Louisville, KY, 40205.
