Obituary for Forrest Flaniken

Forrest  Flaniken
Forrest William Flaniken, 88, of Louisville, KY, passed away July 2, 2014. He was born and raised in Memphis, Tennessee, and graduated from Southwestern (Rhodes) College. He retired after 42 years with McKesson Drug Company, where he was the Distribution Manager. During World War II, he served in India with the Office of Strategic Services (OSS) and the Cavalry.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling to many countries, playing league tennis, and serving his church and the City of Thornhill. He was always generous, kind, and caring.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Joanne Zahner Flaniken; daughter Eleanor Flaniken Borus (Robert); sons Jeffrey (Angela) and James (Laure) Flaniken; daughter-in-law Kristen Nelson Flaniken; nine grandchildren; and brothers Ernest and Richard Flaniken. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Evelyn Flaniken; oldest son Forrest Flaniken, Jr.; and sister Peggy Flaniken Davis.
Visitation will be Monday, July 7, from 4:00-7:00pm at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road, Louisville. The memorial service will be Tuesday, July 8, at 10:30am at Harvey Browne Presbyterian Church, 311 Browns Lane, Louisville. There will be a private interment at Cave Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Harvey Browne Presbyterian Church or Wycliffe Worldwide Project Fund (www.wycliffe.org).
