Obituary for James Champion Ackley

80, Louisville, passed away Monday, October 18, 2010 at the V.A. Hospital. He was a native of Albany, NY and a graduate of the University of Louisville and a chemist. He worked at Dupont for nine years and General Electric and was a member of the GE Elfun Society. He was a Korean conflict veteran, an infantry and CBR officer, a member of VFW Post 1170 and U of L Cardinal Club. He was a long time member of Southeast Christian Church. He was preceded in death by his son, James C. Ackley III who died at age 29. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, the former Bonnie Springate; son, David B. Ackley (Kim) of Ft. Myers, FL; daughter, Kimberly Ackley Halbritter (David); twin brother, David L. Ackley of Troy, NY; sister Evelyn Ackley Gordon of Albany; and four grandchidren, Morgan and Logan Halbritter and Mackenzie and Dalton Ackley. His funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday, October 22, 2010 at Southeast Christian Church, 920 Blankenbaker Pkwy., with burial in Resthaven Memorial Park. Visitation will be on Thursday from noon-8 p.m. at Highlands Family-Owned Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Rd. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Southeast Christian Church or to the VA Hospital.
