James (Jim) Shafferman of Louisville died Tuesday, September 13, 2011 in Jefferson Place with family at his side.
Born in Grafton, West Virginia, August 11, 1928 to William and Frances Shafferman, Jim graduated from Grafton High School. Shortly thereafter he married Katharine Gainer. They celebrated 63 years of marriage last April.
He worked for 37 years in the wholesale paper industry in sales and sales management. He made many new friends after retirement by working with Pat Durham Builder. He was a member of
Crescent Hill Masonic Lodge #456 for 53 years.
He is survived by Kate, his wife, and 4 children Rick (Martha), David (Jean Anne), Brian (Nancy) and Laurel Durham(Pat); 8 grandchildren Emilie Boggis (Gordon), Meredith Baumann (Patrick), Jay Shafferman, Evan Shafferman, Katharine Shafferman, Taylor Shafferman, Nicholas Durham, Ethan Durham; 4 Great Grandchildren Abby Baumann, Hannah Baumann, Lucy Boggis and Alice Boggis.
He was passionate about his family, St Matthews United Methodist Church, and U of L Cardinal basketball. As a 35 year season ticket holder many people found their seats in Freedom Hall by looking for his white head as they came down the steps in the south end zone.

His memorial service will be at 11:00 am Saturday at St. Matthews United Methodist Church, 319 Browns Lane.
Visitation will be from 3:00 -8:00 pm Friday at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Rd.
