Obituary for Jean Sandman Golden

GOLDEN, JEAN SANDMAN, 90, beloved Mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away on June 12, 2012.
A native of Louisville, Jean was born May 25, 1922 and raised in the Highlands where she graduated from St. James School. A graduate of Sacred Heart Academy, class of 1940, she remained active throughout her life and served as President of the academy’s Alumnae Association multiple terms. In 1941 she married Bernard Joseph Golden, Sr. who preceded her in death in 1975. A founding parishioner of Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Jean served as President of the church’s Altar Society three separate times. In the 1960s, she began work at Thornbury Toys to the delight of her grandchildren. Jean was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and a great friend to many.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Jean, brother, William J Sandman Jr. M.D., and daughter-in-law Karin Golden.
Jean is survived by six children: Bernard J. “Skip” Golden, Jr. of Lucasville, OH, Barbara Cambron of Austin, TX, Matthew Golden of Cleveland, TN, Victoria Markell, Timothy Golden (Joanne) and James Golden, Sr. all of Louisville, twelve grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren. Additionally, she is survived by her brothers, Cal M. Sandman (Millie) of Atlanta, Georgia, and Paul Sandman, Sr. of Wimberley, Texas, by her sister, Nancy Ostertag, and sister-in-law, Anne Sandman both of Louisville, and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 16 at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 508 Breckenridge Lane with burial to follow in St. Louis Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m., Friday at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road.
