JOHN P. SWEENEY, JR., 76, passed away Sunday, August 29, 2010. John was born in Louisville on September 6, 1933, and lived life to the fullest for nearly 77 years. He graduated from St. Xavier High School and was an Army veteran, having served as an MP in Korea. He retired as Vice President of Sales from Associates Commercial Corporation, and maintained his own tax service for over 40 years. John was an avid horseman and golfer, and was a long-time member of The Men's Club at Iroquois Golf Course. He was a Kentucky Colonel, and a Catholic by faith. John was preceded in death by his father, John P. Sweeney, and by his mother, Mary L. "Sissie" Sweeney. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Charlotte Anne Sweeney; children, Laura McMaster (Hugh) of Macon, Georgia, and Cheri Hall (David), Scott Sweeney (Kristi), and David Sweeney (Lynn), all of Louisville; grandchildren, Emily Hall, Nicholas Hall, John Chandler McMaster, and Taylor Sweeney; step-grandchildren, Haley and Dylan Mantooth; sister, Mari Hammer (Joseph). He will be dearly missed by his family, and by many close and life-long friends. His funeral service will be at 11:00 AM Wednesday, September 01, 2010 at Highlands Family-Owned Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Rd. Visitation will be from 2 - 8 PM Tuesday at Highlands.
