Obituary for Lillian "Mickey" Crush (Rapier)

CRUSH, Lillian “Mickey”, 88, of Louisville, passed away on Thursday, January 16, 2014 at Baptist Health.
Born in Louisville on March 1, 1925 to the late Sylvester J. Rapier and Lillian Geiger Rapier, she was a graduate of Sacred Heart Academy and attended Ursuline College. She performed and danced with the Louisville Ballet and in the summers performed at the old Louisville Amphitheater. She taught dancing to the younger girls at Joy Williams School of Dance and later at her own home dance studio and was known as “Miss Mickey”. She was involved in the St. Raphael SARA TEEN Club at St. Raphael Church and participated in the early days of the Head Start Program for disadvantaged youth. After moving to Shelbyville, and making it their primary home, she helped to choreograph dances for both Junior Miss and Miss Louisville talent events. While staying in Florida several months out of the year, she was a member of a dance team known as the Hula Cats. They travelled to surrounding areas performing in senior communities and many other places. Mostly, “Miss Mickey” was a gracious and loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother known to the grandchildren simply as “Mom” and the great-grandchildren as “Mom-at-the-lake”. She raised and nurtured seven children, and extended her influence on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is already deeply missed.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 60 years, Albert L. Crush; her sister, Judy R. Parker; and brother, S.J. Rapier, Jr.
Survivors include 3 daughters, Ann Broughton, of Louisville, Carol McMillon (Ray) of Louisville, and Deborah Brewer (Joe) of Pickerington, Ohio; 4 sons, Lee Crush (Pam) of LaGrange, Jim Crush (Carla) of Centerfield, John Crush (Ann) of Prospect, and Andy Crush (Brandi) of Jeffersontown; sister-in-law, T.D. McGee; special family member, Al Kiani (Connie); 17 grandchildren; and almost 15 great-grandchildren.
Her funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, January 20th at St. Edward Catholic Church, 9608 Sue Helen Drive in Jeffersontown, with burial to follow in Grove Hill Cemetery in Shelbyville, KY. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. on Sunday at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road.
Expressions of sympathy may be made to Muscular Dystrophy Foundation in her honor for her much loved grandson, Jacob.
