Obituary for Patricia Bird Denny

DENNY, Patricia Bird Weinedel, 82, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, January 6, 2012.
She attended Centre College and graduated from the University of Louisville. She was a retired first grade teacher, having taught for 22 years in the Jefferson County Public School system. She was a member of Salem United Church of Christ and formerly a longtime member of Buechel Presbyterian Church. During retirement, she took an active interest in the local Hispanic community, teaching ESL classes and advocating on the behalf of members of that community. She had lifelong interests in nature, language and the arts and enjoyed sharing those interests with family and friends alike.
She was predeceased by her husband of 47 ½ years, Waller Sam Denny.
She is survived by two sons, James H. Denny (Annie) and Samuel M. Denny (Linda); four grandchildren, Philip Denny (Sarah), Benjamin Denny, Rebecca Willen (John), and Roy Christopher Denny (Erin); one great-grandchild, Johnny Willen; and two brothers, Del Roy (Fran) of Eugene, Oregon and James N. Weinedel of Wilmington, North Carolina. She was welcoming to anyone she met and much loved by all.
Visitation will be from 2:00-8:00 on Monday at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road, with a memorial service at 11:00 on Tuesday, at Salem United Church of Christ.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy can take the form of a donation to either Hosparus of Louisville (who was a great support to the family) or Kentucky Refugee Ministries.
