WINKLER, Paul J. M.D., 68, of Louisville, passed away October 8, 2010. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Julia F. and Sherley J. Winkler. Paul graduated from St. Xavier High School, Bellarmine University and the University of Kentucky Medical School where he received his medical degree in psychiatry. Following medical school, he served as a physician in the military. His medical practice took him to a variety of places including California, Hawaii and Guam. Upon his return to Louisville, Paul became first a volunteer and then an employee at the Habitat for Humanity Restore on Floyd Street. The mission and people of the Restore became a second family for Paul. He is survived by two brothers, David (Joan) and John (Kyle); two nieces, Meagan Sisk (Phillip) and Julia Winkler; four nephews, Matthew, Joseph, Gavin and Travis Winkler; one great-nephew, Noah Winkler; and one great-niece, Madeline Sisk. The funeral service will be at 10 am on Monday at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Rd. followed by private burial. Visitation will be from 1 – 7 on Sunday at Highlands. Memorial contributions may be given to Habitat for Humanity.
