Obituary for Richard "Larry" Bizianes

Richard “Larry” Bizianes, 80, passed away Tuesday, May 9, 2017 in his home after a day working with his wife Judy at Bizianes Music Mart.

Known over the years as Larry, Uncle Larry, Laro, or “The Baron of Bardstown Road”, he continued pursuing his passion of music until the very last call. A permanent fixture in the Historic Highlands, the “Music Mart” has been a gathering place for more than 52 years to young musicians embarking on a love of music up to the upper tier of some of the finest musicians of our time. Larry loved to educate and wanted to pass on his passion for music to all who sought it.

Larry’s love of music came in the form of an accordion his father brought back from WWII. So began our father’s love for making music.

Over the years Larry would graduate from Louisville Male High School Class of 1954. He then served “valiantly” in the 113th Army Band with great courage.
Larry was preceded in death by his sister, Barbara (Cissy) Orthman.

By his side in the journey of a lifetime is his wife of 54 years, Judith R. Bizianes. Having met as teens, Judy was one of Larry’s accordion students. Little did they know the incredible journey before them and how fortunate for him that she could play so well.

In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by 4 children, John (Lynn), Chris (Elizabeth), Jana (Martin), and David (Beth). He also leaves behind 9 grandchildren whom he loved beyond measure; Jessica (Will), Lauren (Lucas), Brad, Alex, Juliet, Katherine, Miles, Ella, and Jack; sister, Margaret (Emily, Elliot, TJ) and brother, Roy Wm. Sr. (Lil’ Joe) and a host of cousins, family and friends that are too many to list but whose presence in his life were never taken for granted.

His memorial visitation will be from Noon – 7:00 p.m. Friday, May 12, 2017 at Bizianes Music Mart, 2317 Bardstown Rd.

His funeral service will be private.
