Obituary for Robert Bruce Gates

Robert Bruce Gates, of Louisville, KY, died Sunday, July 29, at the age of 67.
Rob was born in Lombard, Illinois to Richard and Frances Thompson Gates. Rob and his younger siblings, Alison Bosdet (Mike) and John (Patty), grew up creating small explosions in the yard, devising chemistry experiments in the basement, and vacationing in Forest Beach, Michigan. While vacationing in Michigan, Rob met Mari, who became his wife of 45 years. These trips continue to be the highlight of every year for Rob and his ever-growing family.
Rob and Mari both graduated from Western Illinois University. Rob went on to get his MBA from Keller Graduate School of Management. After a few more years in the Chicago suburbs and having two kids (Sam and Kate Gates, both of Chicago) the family moved to Louisville. In Louisville, Rob and Mari found a great network of friends through church, work, and neighbors. These friends have been a source of support, fun, and strength throughout the years.
Rob worked in the medical supply field for many years and completed his employment with DRE Medical. In addition to volunteering with Grace Evangelical Free Church, Rob especially enjoyed his involvement with Gate of Hope Ministries, a nonprofit that works with refugees in Louisville and community building in Rwanda.
His memorial service will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, August 1, 2018, at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Rd. Visitation will be Tuesday, 3-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
