Obituary for Ruth Weigel

WEIGEL, RUTH FRANCES McKNIGHT, of Louisville passed away June 16, 2012.
She was born on September 22, 1918. She was a wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend. She was our Deedee! Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Fred W. Weigel; her parents, James and Martha McKnight; her sisters, Opal Hill, Nancy Hunt, and Esther Brunker; and her infant brother, James.
Deedee is survived by her sons, Dr. Terence Weigel (Donna Russow) and Gregory Weigel (Jessie); her three granddaughters, Janet Anderson (Derrick), Elyse Weigel (Hugh Barrow, III) and Whitney Weigel; and her three great-grandchildren, Hudson and Cooper Barrow, and Victoria Anderson, all of Louisville.
She graduated from Cynthiana High School and Fugazzi Business School. After raising two boys, she enjoyed a successful career in the Credit Department at Stewart's Dry Goods and later at Kosair Children's Hospital until she was 78 years old.
She was a member of English Speaking Union and Louisville Turners where she was an avid gymnast. She was a patron of the arts, especially the Louisville Ballet. She loved growing roses, traveling and cruising, decorating her home, attending afternoon tea, and shopping. She enjoyed walking through Cherokee Park, listening to Big Band music, working crossword puzzles, and reading history books, particularly those about the Kennedy family and the English Royals.
The family will receive friends at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road on Wednesday, June 20, 2012 from 4-8 p.m. A funeral Mass will be held on Thursday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Louis Bertrand Catholic Church, 1104 S. 6th St with burial to follow at Cave Hill Cemetery.
