JONES, Sandra “Sandy” Thompson, 58, of Louisville, passed away on Friday, July 20th, 2012 at home. She taught at Wheeler Elementary but retired from the Jefferson County Public School System after 31 years of teaching as a Rank 1, the last few years being at Norton Elementary. She graduated from Sacred Heart Academy in 1971 and graduated from The University of Kentucky with a B.A. degree and a Masters of Art from The University of Louisville. Sandy was preceded in death by her brother, John V. Thompson. She is survived by her parents, Stella Nuss & Jack V. Thompson; brother, James S. Thompson (Karen); sister, Jeanne P. Werner (Larry); sister-in-law, Cynthia Thompson; aunt, Alice Summers; former husband and loving friend, Don Willmes; 2 nieces, Kimberly Thompson & Lauren Werner de Corral; and 2 nephews, Jacob Werner & Joshua Thompson. Sandy’s funeral service will be at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 24 at Highlands Family-Owned Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road, with burial to follow in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday from 2-8 p.m., at Highlands. She will be missed more than words can say and only the heart can feel.
