Obituary for Steven Riddle Dr.

Riddle, Dr. Steven Lawrence, 51, passed away peacefully as a result of complications from a hemorrhagic stroke on Thursday, September 1, 2011, at Baptist Hospital East surrounded by his loving family.
Steve was born March 16, 1960 in Louisville, Kentucky to Lawrence and Mary Jane Landers Riddle.
Dr. Riddle was a Trinity High School graduate, Class of 1978. Before attending the University of Kentucky, he studied abroad in France for one year. He graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Kentucky with a Bachelors Degree in Biology. He continued his studies at the University of Louisville School of Medicine and graduated in 1986. After the completion of his internship and residency, he remained with the University as an Associate Professor starting his career doing what he loved most, teaching. Later, Dr. Riddle became board certified in internal medicine.
In 1991, he started a private solo practice in Carrollton, Kentucky. In 2002, he became a hospitalist for several hospitals throughout the state of Kentucky. At the time of his death, he was working as a hospitalist for Sts. Mary and Elizabeth Hospital.
Dr. Riddle devoted his life to taking care of his patients, and even upon his death he continued to help people by donating his organs to Kentucky Organ Donor Affiliates (KODA).
Being a member of Big Spring Country Club, Steve was an avid golfer, sometimes playing 36 holes on a weekend day. He trained and coached at Synergy Martial Arts and was a second degree black belt. He encouraged and inspired students to always work hard and give their very best leading many of them to numerous national championships, including his children, William and Jenny. Having a love for football, Steve assisted on the sidelines as team doctor for the Middletown Youth Optimist League where his son, Ross, played for many years. Steve was a devoted UK Wildcat fan and loved watching them. As an exercise enthusiast, Steve worked out regularly at the YMCA, where he had many friends.
Steve is survived by his loving wife of 21 years, Trish Tooley Riddle, sons, Eric Ross and William Lawrence, and daughter, Jennifer Lauren Riddle; his father, Lawrence Riddle and mother, Mary Jane Riddle who passed away peacefully several hours after her son; brother, Mark Riddle (Robin) and their children, Brittany and Blair; his aunt, Betty Sue Lerding, and her daughter, Karin Brown. He is also survived by his father-in-law, William O. Tooley; brothers-in-law, Bruce Tooley (Beulah) and their children, Eli (Misti), Katie (Bert), Sarah (Brent), Miriam and Mary (Sam) and Alan Tooley (Theresa) and their son, Alex; sisters-in-law, Susan Barnes (Ben) and their daughters, Amy (John), Julie (Rob) and Jessica (Joe); Kathy Barter (Mark) and their daughters, Whitney, Melissa (Marc) and Hillary; and Nancy Wimpsett (Gary) and their children, Brian, Timothy, and Emily; 10 great nieces and nephews and numerous cousins.
Memorial services for Dr. Riddle will be held at 12 noon Tuesday, September 6, 2011, at Broadway Baptist Church, 4000 Brownsboro Road, with a private burial in Cave Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held 2 – 8 p.m. on Monday, September 5, 2011, at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road. Expressions of sympathy may be made to YMCA Big Brothers Big Sisters and KODA.
