Obituary for William Allen Kinman Jr.

KINMAN, WILLIAM ALLEN "BILL" JR., 79, of Louisville, passed away on January 31, 2012 at home surrounded by his family.
He was truly a dedicated and loving husband and family man, admired father and grandfather and loyal friend.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Elsie Kinman; and sister, Jane Kinman Whitlow.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Evelyn Green Kinman; children, Deborah Owens (Bobby), Kimberly Neuner (Rick), William Allen Kinman III (Suzie), Lauri Knabel (Bob), and Kay Peak (Mike); grandchildren, Courtney Olsofka, (Jon), Richard Neuner III (Heather), Bobby Owens Jr. (Maggie), Jenna Domeck (Craig), Lauren Knabel, Kristin Knabel, Nick Peak, Lili Kinman, Robby Knabel, Jennifer Peak, William Allen Kinman IV and Katie Kinman; and great-grandchildren, Jackson Neuner and Eden Olsofka.
Bill was very involved in the community as a mason and a Kosair Shriner. Music played a big part in his life. He was a 44-year member of his beloved Kosair Shrine Brass Band. Through the Shrine he was also a member of the Dance Band, Boat Club, Jesters and Roadsters.
Bill learned to play the saxophone as a child and continued to play the Alto, Tenor and Baritone Sax throughout his life. At Manual High School (Class of 1950), he was a member of the marching band. Later on, he played in the Shively Civic Band, the Kosair Shrine Circus Band, started the Entertainers with his sister, Jane, played in the Joyful Sound at Christ Church United Methodist, as well as several other small local bands. Bill also cherished the life-long memories he made with family and friends boating on the "Kinmanship." Bill served in the United States Army during the Korean War and was extremely proud of his military service to our country.
Bill had many passions in life; one of them was his business. Bill and his wife, Evelyn, took over as third-generation owners and operators of Kinman Plumbing Co. (est. 1890) after his father passed. He continued to oversee the company throughout his life. Bill was an active member and former president of the Louisville Master Plumbers Association and helped negotiate the merger of the Louisville and Jefferson County associations. He was a member of the Kentucky and the National Plumbing, Heating and Cooling Contractors associations. In addition to operating the plumbing company, Bill and his sister, Jane Whitlow, started Kinman & Whitlow Realty and to this day the family-operated company owns many commercial and residential properties throughout Louisville. He was also very active in the Kentucky Real Estate Investment Association (KREIA).
As newlyweds, Bill and Evelyn raised their family as members of Virginia Avenue United Methodist Church, later transferring their membership to Shively United Methodist Church. As of 1979 they became members of Christ Church United Methodist.
The family would like to express our deep appreciation to Christ Church United Methodist and Hosparus of Louisville for the loving care they provided.
His funeral service is 11 a.m. Saturday, February 4, 2012, Christ Church United Methodist, 4614 Brownsboro Road, with burial to follow in Cave Hill Cemetery. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Thursday and 2-5 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at Highlands Family-Owned Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road.
In lieu of flowers, the family ask that donations in Bill's memory be made to the Spina Bifida Association of Kentucky, Kosair Charities or Hosparus.
