Obituary for Donald Carl (Don, DT) Thom
Donald Carl (Don, DT) Thom, 92, passed away Thursday, June 21, 2018.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Kathleen (Bergman) Thom and his son, Michael Allen Thom.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Carolyn (Jaegers) Thom; daughter, Marcia Lynne Thom; grandson, Christopher A. Reichle (Stacie); two great-grandchildren and one on the way.
Don lived a life full of adventure, community service, and friends around the world. He was a Navy WWII veteran and was actively involved with Boy Scouts of America for 80 years, earning the Silver Beaver and Silver Antelope awards. He served as Order of the Arrow Lodge 123 adviser and was a member of the National Order of the Arrow National Committee for 25 years. He also served with the Worthington Volunteer Fire Department for over 31 years, the last six years as Chief. He was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution and the National Ski Patrol. Don was employed by Southern Bell Telephone Company from Dec. 1947-June 1976. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers and Chorus. Don was a passionate genealogist and loved the outdoors.
His funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 26, 2018 at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Rd. with burial in Cave Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2:00 – 7:00 p.m. Monday at Highlands.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the charity of donor’s choice.
