MAYER, Linda Gruner, 66, of Louisville, passed away Wednesday, January 4, 2017, at home, surrounded by her family and friends.

Linda was a graduate of Durrett High School, where her classmates voted her Miss Durrett 1968. She graduated from the University of Kentucky with a BA in Education. Linda was a Life Member of the UK Alumni Association and a member of St. Agnes Church. In 2009, she was awarded the St. Xavier Volunteer of the Year Award for nine years of service as Decorating Chair for Xtravaganza. Then, in 2013, she received the Minerva Award from Sigma Alpha Epsilon National Men’s Fraternity for her 20 years of serving as President of the Moms’ Club at the UK Chapter. However, Linda’s greatest achievement was nurturing her five sons to be gentlemen, who are proud to continue her legacy.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William C. and Helen M. Gruner.

Linda is survived by her husband of 45 years, Edward A. Mayer, Sr.; sons, Andy Mayer (Emily), Christopher M. Mayer, Brooks K. Mayer (Sasha), William Logan Mayer, and Taylor A. Mayer (Holly); grandchildren, Olivia Rose Mayer, Lillie Grace Mayer, Henry M. Mayer, and Chappell A. Mayer; sisters, Shirley G. Renders and Sandra K. Haag (Richard); and her nieces and nephews.

Linda was a loving, compassionate woman with an incredible ability to make everyone she met her friend, and she cherished her circle of close friends. She was a true matriarch to the Mayer family.

Visitation will be Sunday 1pm-8pm at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road. Her Funeral Mass will be 10am Monday at St. Agnes Church, 1920 Newburg Road, with burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery.
