Obituary for Paul Thieneman Sr.

THIENEMAN, Paul Joseph, 87, of Louisville, died on July 31, 2014 at the Episcopal Church Home. He was the son of John and Elizabeth (Senn) Thieneman, and was born on their farm on May 18, 1927. The fifth of nine children, he is survived by his sisters; Sr. Rosalin Thieneman, O.S.U. of Owensboro, Ky. and Marita Eckhart of Louisville, Ky. He is predeceased by brothers, Joseph, John, Edward, and Earl, and sisters Bernice and Therese. He married the love of his life, Jean Florence Hinkebein on August 21, 1948 and together they celebrated their 65th anniversary in 2013. Paul and Jean have 7 children; Susan Elizabeth Coomes (Paul), Paul Joseph Thieneman, Jr. (Suetta), Mary Margaret Hartman (David), Phillip Anthony Thieneman, Sarah Marie Thieneman (John Teasley), all of Louisville, Ky.; Douglas Michael of Greenville, IN, and Patricia Van Essche (John-Charles) of Ardsley, New York.
Paul was also blessed with 12 grandchildren, Andrew, Ashley, Jay, Amby, Ben, Will, Joseph, John Paul, Christian, Alexandra, Amelia, Creighton, and 7 great-grandchildren, each “marvelously made.” He loved nothing better than to be with his family for pool parties, sporting events and holiday gatherings. Paul graduated from St. Xavier High School in 1945 and attended the
University of Louisville, He began the Pauls’ Fruit Markets, Inc., establishing four local markets from the original location at 1006 Barrett Avenue. Paul was an active member of the City Sales Club. Paul and Jean were members of Holy Spirit Catholic Church for almost 60 years.
The family thanks his caregivers and the Episcopal Church Home for their loving kindness over the last year.
A funeral Mass will be held at 10 am on Tuesday, August 5 at Holy Spirit Church with burial to follow in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 – 8 pm on Monday, August 4 at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Rd.
